Headquartered in Rockledge, Florida, WASS provides comprehensive, world-class aviation support to the US Department of State Air Wing, encompassing both expeditionary and conventional solutions.
Position Summary:
Based at the US Embassy in Iraq, the Aviation Maintenance Pilot plays a crucial role in ensuring the airworthiness of the Department of State Air Wing's aircraft. This involves conducting meticulous test flights following maintenance or modifications, employing established flight test methodologies, and diligently evaluating aircraft performance and handling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive test flights, demonstrating aircraft proficiency post-maintenance or modification.
- Act as Line Pilot in Command when required.
- Analyze meteorological data and file flight plans for all flights, adhering to approved navigational procedures.
- Calculate weight and balance logs for assigned aircraft.
- Meticulously complete all flight and maintenance documentation, including test flight reports and discrepancy logs.
- Collaborate effectively with mechanics and technicians, providing clear communication, troubleshooting assistance, and expert advice.
- Assess aircraft airworthiness in accordance with established publications and procedures before flight authorization.
- Conduct recovery flights and ferry aircraft to various locations as needed.
- Troubleshoot aircraft issues both on the ground and during flight, documenting findings and providing clear instructions for rectification.
- Perform engine run-ups in support of maintenance activities.
- Possess the capability to conduct Aircraft Technical Inspections (TI) as an additional duty.
- Plan and execute detailed technical inspections of aircraft.
- Provide technical guidance on aircraft and subsystem maintenance techniques, emphasizing safety procedures.
- Undertake travel as required to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- FAA Commercial and Instrument Pilot Rotorcraft Helicopter certifications.
- FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
- Documented completion of a civil or military maintenance test pilot course.
Experience:
- 1500+ total rotary wing flight hours, including 500+ hours of turbine engine time.
- Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualification with 300+ hours of NVG experience.
- 50+ hours of documented maintenance pilot or functional check pilot time.
- Qualification in UH-60 A/L/M, MH-60 series, SH-60 series, or HH-60 Series aircraft.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a US Military MP/FPC pilot.
