AAR | Instructor

AAR is seeking a Chief Instructor / Flight Standardization Pilot to serve as the senior technical authority for pilot standardization at its Fort Rucker, Alabama location. This position will plan, organize, direct, and control all phases of flight operations, ensuring the highest levels of safety, regulatory compliance, and operational proficiency. The role encompasses both Operations and Maintenance standardization, providing unified oversight across flight, simulator, and academic environments.

About the Role

The Chief Instructor / Flight Standardization Pilot is responsible for leading and managing all pilot standardization programs, ensuring consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), checklists, Crew Resource Management (CRM) practices, and operational procedures. This includes planning and directing all phases of flight operations to ensure standardized execution across both Operations and Maintenance activities. The position holder will serve as the head of the Standardization and Evaluation Board, maintaining flight SOPs aligned with industry, FAA, and military best practices. Responsibilities also include overseeing the development and control of operating manuals, collaborating with training teams to design and deliver effective training programs, and conducting pilot evaluations and assessments across various environments.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of helicopter aviation experience, including support of U.S. Army or government aviation training programs.
• Minimum of 2,000 total rotorcraft flight hours.
• Minimum of 1,000 instructor pilot flight hours.
• 500 hours of Night Vision Goggle (NVG) / Night Vision System (NVS) experience.
• 100 hours of instrument flight time.
• Extensive aviation experience in military or commercial operations with a strong record of technical and operational leadership.
• Deep knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, Part 141 operations, and pilot standardization requirements.
• Demonstrated experience leading standardization programs, evaluation boards, or pilot training organizations.
• Strong technical proficiency in aircraft systems, flight operations, and safety management systems.
• Prior experience as a Chief Pilot, Flight Standardization Officer, or an equivalent leadership role in a certificated operator.
• Graduate of an Instructor Pilot/Maintenance Test Pilot Course (IP/MTPC) is required.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence a high-performance operational culture.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship is required to hold a secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Master's degree is preferred.
