Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS), an AAR business headquartered in Rockledge, FL, provides exceptional expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions to the US Department of State Air Wing.
Role Description:
This position serves as a DHC-8 Pilot in Command, with occasional responsibilities as Second in Command. The pilot will be responsible for planning flight assignments and obtaining essential information regarding flight purpose, weather conditions, operating procedures, and specific instructions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare or supervise the preparation of flight plans, considering factors such as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities, and navigational aids.
- Ensure the presence of the necessary flight kit.
- Verify that required airworthiness inspections have been conducted and any previous discrepancies have been addressed or properly deferred in accordance with the Minimum Equipment List (MEL) for the aircraft.
- Supervise or perform the aircraft preflight inspection and preparation.
- Ensure proper loading, distribution, and security of cargo. Supervise the placement of carry-on baggage in the cargo area when required.
- Verify that aircraft weight and balance are within prescribed limits. Prepare the Aircraft Flight Maintenance Log, Load Manifest, and Discrepancy Record forms. Ensure a copy of each form is delivered to the Operations Support Manager for filing upon the completion of each flight assignment.
- Ensure the availability of survival equipment and any special emergency equipment, such as life vests, when required.
- Maintain final responsibility for logging aircraft flight time, filing and closing flight plans, and preparing flight and duty time records.
- Ensure the preparation of the Aircraft Flight Maintenance Log, Load Manifest, and Discrepancy Record form. Report any mechanical irregularities, discrepancies, and properly record maintenance performed by maintenance personnel when maintenance is conducted away from the primary operations base.
- Ensure safety and maintain ramp security during passenger boarding and disembarkation.
- Conduct security assessments before each flight and ensure understanding of the Rules of Engagement (ROE).
- Maintain adequate rest and adhere to proper dress code.
- Delegate tasks to other personnel while retaining overall responsibility.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman's Certificate Airplane MEL.
- FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Current FAA Class II Medical certificate.
- Successful completion of an FAA Type Rating Course in the selected aircraft type before assignment.
- 1500 total fixed-wing flight hours, including 500 hours of turbine engine time and 250 hours as a MEL pilot in command.
- Unrestricted type rating.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior US Military FW Transport pilot qualified and/or support on the DoS INLA program.
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating.
OCONUS Requirements:
- Ability to pass physical screening.
- Passport with 18 months of validity remaining.
- Level 2 Spanish proficiency for LATAM positions.
- Willingness to relocate.
