Role Overview
The Fixed Wing Pilot in Command (TCN) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of flight assignments. This position requires expert leadership as Pilot in Command and, when necessary, as Second in Command. The incumbent is responsible for meticulously planning flight operations, gathering essential information, and adhering to all operational procedures and directives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the preparation of detailed flight plans, considering factors such as altitude, terrain, weather, aircraft range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities, and navigational aids.
- Verify the presence and adequacy of the required flight kit.
- Confirm that all necessary airworthiness inspections have been completed and that any noted discrepancies have been rectified or appropriately deferred in accordance with the Minimum Equipment List (MEL).
- Supervise or conduct comprehensive preflight inspections and preparations of the aircraft.
- Ensure the correct loading, distribution, and security of all cargo and equipment.
- Confirm that carry-on baggage is stowed in the cargo area as mandated.
- Determine and document that aircraft weight and balance are within prescribed limits. Prepare and ensure the accurate completion of the Aircraft Flight Maintenance Log, Load Manifest, and Discrepancy Record form, delivering copies to the Operation Support Manager upon flight completion.
- Verify the inclusion of essential survival and emergency equipment, such as life vests, when required.
- Maintain ultimate responsibility for logging aircraft flight time, filing and closing flight plans, and preparing flight and duty time records.
- Oversee the preparation of the Aircraft Flight Maintenance Log, Load Manifest, and Discrepancy Record form, and ensure proper reporting of mechanical irregularities, discrepancies, and accurate recording of maintenance actions performed by maintenance personnel, especially when maintenance occurs away from the primary operations base.
- Uphold safety standards and ensure ramp security is maintained during passenger boarding and disembarkation.
- Conduct thorough security assessments prior to each flight and ensure a clear understanding of the Rules of Engagement (ROE).
- Maintain personal readiness through adequate rest and professional attire.
- Delegate responsibilities to other personnel while retaining overall accountability.
- Perform duties as a Functional Check Pilot as required.
- Undertake other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman’s Certificate for Airplane Single Engine Land (SEL) or Multi-Engine Land (MEL) with an Instrument Multi-Engine rating.
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), with Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) and Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) ratings for multi-engine aircraft, or an equivalent military instructor qualification.
- FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
- Minimum 300 hours of Pilot in Command (PIC) time in similar single-engine aircraft.
- Minimum 300 hours of PIC time in similar multi-engine aircraft.
- Previous military Fixed Wing (FW) flight training qualification or civilian equivalent.
- Successful completion of an FAA Type Rating Course in the specific aircraft type is required prior to assignment.
- 1500 total fixed wing flight hours, including a minimum of 500 hours of turbine engine time.
- Host Nation equivalent certifications may be accepted in lieu of FAA certifications.
- Possession of an unrestricted type rating.
- Required Spanish language proficiency (Level L-2, R-2) for LATAM Programs.
- This position requires a U.S. Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior U.S. Military FW Transport pilot qualification and/or experience supporting the U.S. Department of State INLA program.
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating.
- Documented previous qualification or experience as a Maintenance Test Pilot or Functional Test Pilot.
